Tim LaHaye, best-selling author of the Left Behind series and many other books, passed away early July 25 at the age of 90 after suffering a stroke. LaHaye was the founder and president of Tim LaHaye Ministries and the PreTrib Research Center. He was instrumental in the start of the Institute for Creation Research and San Diego Christian College. He was a well-known evangelical pastor, pastoring a church in San Diego for more than 25 years.
Tim and his wife Beverly spoke at CHEA’s Pacific Homeschool SuperConference in 2011 in Santa Clara. Tim’s daughter and son-in-law Linda and Gerald Murphy were instrumental in CHEA’s formation. Gerald served on CHEA’s first advisory board.
“Tim LaHaye was such a blessing in my life for his teaching, writing, and ministry, and he and his family had great impact on CHEA. It was such an honor to spend time with him at our 2011 Pacific SuperConference where he was a guest speaker. He will be missed, but I look forward to seeing him again in heaven. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family,” said Susan Beatty, general manager of CHEA.
The LaHayes were very supportive of homeschooling. In fact, we’d like to share Drs. Beverly and Tim LaHaye’s workshop description from our 2011 Conference:
Homeschooling Needed Now More than Ever
The last national election has indicated that the American people are finally waking up to the fact that our nation is divided between secularists who have a powerful grip on education verses a large majority who want to return to the Judeo-Christian principles on which our country was originally founded. The future will be controlled by those who control the thinking of the next generation of school age children and youth. This is no time for morally committed parents who do not want their children to be raised in a Sodom and Gomorrah like society to entrust their children to the secular mindset from K-12 and on into graduate school of today’s government-controlled schools.
There is a time-tested alternative; it is a Christ honoring Bible-based education found either in homeschool or a thoroughly Christ committed Christian School.
Whoever controls today’s classroom or homeschools will determine the future of society throughout the 21st century.
