Zan Tyler speaks to the heart of Christian parents like few others. Zan’s own homeschool journey began in 1984 when she was threatened with jail. She has spent the past three decades advocating for homeschool freedom, publishing curriculum and resources, and joyfully equipping parents to thrive in their homeschool journey. She is an uplifting speaker, author, and the host of the Zan Tyler Podcast, an encouraging and practical weekly podcast with a new episode each Wednesday.
Nathan began working at Family Protection Ministries (FPM) in 2002 to protect private homeschooling in California. He was homeschooled himself from kindergarten through high school and received a B.A. in Political Studies from The Master’s University. Currently he serves as Executive Director and Legislative Liaison for FPM and on the CHEA Board of Directors. He works behind the scenes at the State Capitol, meeting with legislators to advocate on behalf of homeschoolers. He and his wife Betsy homeschool their own eight children.
As CHEA's Executive Director, Angela Lasch gets to work every day toward her vision of families knowing they can absolutely home educate their children. As CHEA was a tremendous help to her while she and her husband, Scott, were homeschooling their three boys, she now gets to encourage others in their own homeschool journeys. Even though she graduated her youngest in 2022, she loves aiding families throughout California, including a PSP in her home church. Above all, she cherishes her role as a grandmother and finds great joy in spending time with her two granddaughters.
Answering God’s call to teach your children at home can be exciting at first, but it’s easy to lose sight of the vision when you find yourself overwhelmed by the demands of the homeschooling life: teaching phonics, preparing transcripts, refereeing fights, and—oh, by the way—making dinner too. But in the midst of the madness, we must constantly remind ourselves that our work matters because we’re building God’s kingdom! Come hear Zan share from history and God’s Word. And catch a glimpse of how God is using your family—and the homeschool movement—to usher in spiritual, educational, and family revival in our nation.
If you’ve been homeschooling for any length of time, you’ve undoubtedly had a hard homeschool day (or week or month or season). We’ve all been there. The kids are struggling or lacking motivation, it’s hard to focus, everyone’s feeling cranky, and it seems like you’re getting farther and farther behind. So what do you do when those hard days happen? In this uplifting session, Zan shares strategies, inspiration, and practical ideas to help you through those hard homeschool days.
Conversation is a potent tool that carries with it the power of life and death, and lays the foundation for deep and meaningful relationships. Conversation is an essential tool in discipling your children. Research even indicates that conversation increases intelligence in children and teens. In this workshop Zan reveals how you can utilize the simple—and free—tool of conversation to help your children become more motivated learners. Learn strategies you can take home and implement tomorrow to increase joy in learning and minimize conflict in your family, too. You’ll come away convinced that conversation IS core curriculum.
Do you know how a bill becomes law, and about the real-life political skirmishes and shenanigans that go on at our State Capitol, where a fair fight is not valued nearly as much as a win? As we in obedience pray for those who rule over us, do we trust in God or in a political solution? Hear how home educators can be involved in making a difference while depending on God alone. Will also apply practical wisdom and updates to several bills you may have heard about over the last few months.
With seven young children in their home, Nathan and his wife do a lot of explaining about what is going on in the world. It can be tempting to give short answers but doing so shirks our responsibility to train our children in discernment. Studying and growing in discernment is something that we as parents need to model for our children as well as mentor them in it. How can we do this in a world that is so confusing and full of people that teach that lies are truth and truth doesn’t exist?
One of the questions we get asked most often is how to get started homeschooling or how to leave the charter system and homeschool privately. If you are one of those asking these questions, this is the workshop for you. With much wisdom and encouragement, Angela will walk you through the process (which is basically the same for either of those scenarios) step by step. Come begin your own exciting homeschool journey!
