Is this for your group?

The Support Network welcomes leaders of these four kinds of California homeschool groups.

Private School Satellite Program (PSP)

A type of private school in which parents are the primary teachers of their own children. A PSP files one affidavit covering all enrolled families. It meets the requirements of California Education Code 48222.

Support Group

A group whose primary focus is providing community for homeschool families through a variety of social activities; offering support and encouragement to parents in all aspects of homeschooling. The group does not file an affidavit; each family is responsible for fulfilling the legal requirements for exemption from compulsory education for their own children.

Special Interest Group

A group which is parent-led and focuses on a single subject area or style of teaching. Examples include a sports league, speech and debate, nature studies, Charlotte Mason, unit studies, literary club, etc.

Learning Community

A program that offers homeschool families community primarily through regular classes, but also hosts some additional activities; parents determine course of study; teachers may or may not be paid; each family is responsible for fulfilling the legal requirements for exemption from compulsory education for their own children.

Why leaders join

A footprint of homeschool freedom across California.

When Christian homeschool groups stand together as one statewide network, we create something no single group could on its own. A presence that's seen across California and heard in Sacramento. The bigger the network, the greater our collective voice when private Christian home education needs defending.

01

You're not leading alone.

Connect with leaders across the state through our private Facebook group for members only, regional gatherings, and direct access to CHEA staff. Most of us have led homeschool groups ourselves. We know what you're carrying.

02

You'll be equipped for the work.

Bi-monthly Support Network News written for group leaders, invitations to leadership conferences and Zoom calls, and Christian encouragement from those who have walked this road.

03

Your group gets seen.

Referrals from CHEA's office and at our events, promotion of your events through our weekly e-newsletter, and an optional Homeschool Directory listing visible to California families searching for groups like yours.

Frequently asked questions

Six common questions from prospective Support Network leaders.

What's the difference between CHEA membership and the Support Network?
CHEA membership is for individual homeschool families. It includes free PDF downloads, curriculum discounts, event discounts, and access to our digital library. The Support Network is for leaders of homeschool groups like PSPs, support groups, learning communities, and special-interest groups. It provides leader-specific training, a private leader community, group promotion, and the tools to lead well. Network-tier membership actually includes a free CHEA Friend Membership for the group leader.
Do all of my group members need to be Christian for my group to be eligible?
No. Only the leadership of your group needs to be Christian and in agreement with CHEA's Statement of Faith and Mission Statement. Your group's families can come from any background. Each group sets its own enrollment criteria; we ask only that the group is led from a Christian foundation and operated according to the principles of Scripture.
Can my members' students be enrolled in a charter school?
Yes. Each group sets its own enrollment criteria, and individual families may make their own educational choices. We do ask, however, that group leaders themselves are not leading, enrolled in, or employed by a public school program (including charter schools), and that Support Network groups do not serve as charter school vendors. This keeps our network rooted in private Christian home education while leaving each family free to choose what's right for their children.
I don't want my group listed online. Is the Support Network still worth it?
Yes. Many of our member groups choose not to be listed in the public Homeschool Directory, and that's perfectly fine. The directory listing is just one benefit among many. The deeper value of Support Network membership is standing together with leaders across California: shared training, a private leader community, advocacy in Sacramento, and the strength that comes from not leading alone. Your group doesn't have to be public to be part of the network.
I have two different groups. Can both join?
Yes. A second affiliated group (for example, a PSP that also runs a support group, or a learning community that hosts a special-interest group) may join at a discounted rate. Email sndirector@cheaofca.org to set this up.
Who do I contact with questions or special situations?
Email sndirector@cheaofca.org anytime. Whether you're still forming a group, weighing which membership tier is right, navigating an unusual situation, or just want to talk through what the Support Network would look like for your group, we're glad to help. We're leaders too, and we'd rather have a conversation than make you guess.
Before you apply

Every Support Network group affirms our Membership Agreement at registration. It outlines our shared commitments around Christian leadership, group operations, child safety, and the ongoing partnership between CHEA and your group.
