How We Collect Information

Your Personal Information. CHEA collects personal information only when you voluntarily provide us with personal information such as name, address, telephone number, email address, etc. We use your personal information only as necessary to allow you to access portions of our site which require Membership or registration and to allow you to order products, join CHEA, make donations, receive notice of our services and events, etc. We never share this information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Your Billing or Financial Information. Online payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. Your card number is entered directly with Stripe and is never received or stored by CHEA — we retain only the last four digits and card brand for receipts and order records. If you purchase a subscription or recurring donation, your payment information is stored with the payment processor, not with CHEA.

If you make a purchase at our event or by mail, fax, phone, or in person, we keep your billing information only until your purchase has been processed and completed. Then we erase or shred all billing information that could identify you or your accounts.

Your Computer's Technical Information. We automatically collect technical information from your computer, such as your computer's IP address, which we use only as necessary to operate and improve our website and services.

Use of Cookies

We use cookies to make our website easier for you to use. For example, we use session cookies while you are visiting our site, including to keep track of your shopping cart; these expire after a period of inactivity. If your computer is set so that it does not allow cookies, you will not be able to place orders on our website. However, you may order our products by telephone at (562) 864-2432.

We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to help us understand how visitors use our site; this data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.

How We Use Your Information

Your privacy is important to us. We will not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone other than CHEA of California and those acting on our behalf, unless it is necessary to comply with the law.

CHEA uses your contact information to send you information about CHEA or about your business with us. For example, we may send you conference registration information after you register to attend one of our events; delivery or billing information related to a purchase you made from us on our website, at an event, through the mail, etc.; or information or news about CHEA and our services. We may also send third-party information on occasion, as described below.

Only CHEA's staff or subcontracting third parties have access to your information. Staff includes our employees who work for us on a regular, paid basis; our Board Members and other regular ongoing volunteer staff; and those who help us occasionally during the year, such as during event registration processing. Subcontracting third parties include those who have businesses which are separate from CHEA, but which have contracted to perform administrative or customer service-related work for us, such as a mailing company, website hosting company, or credit card processing company. All our staff and subcontracting third parties must agree to use your contact information only for CHEA's purposes and to keep your information confidential.

CHEA of California does not share your information with third parties for their marketing purposes. CHEA does occasionally send information on behalf of others. For example, we may send a legislative alert from HSLDA or FPM. We also may send information regarding a product or event which is not sponsored by CHEA. When we choose to send such information from others, we do so ourselves without sharing your information with others, and we do so only when we determine that the information is consistent with CHEA's mission statement.

Viewing and Correcting Your Contact Information. You may review and make corrections to your contact information at any time by selecting "Account." You may also request a copy of your contact information in writing by mailing your request to:

We do not handle such requests by telephone for security purposes.

Homeschool Directory Participation

If you are a Member of our Support Network (open to leaders of homeschool groups), we give you the option to be included in our resource directory. If you choose to participate, we provide your contact information to homeschoolers who tell us they are looking for a homeschool group in their area. We also include your contact information on our online directory, where it is viewable by the public and where it may be found through online search engines such as Google.

Opting Out

You may elect not to receive email news and information from CHEA. If you do opt out, however, we will still contact you by email regarding business transactions with us, such as shipping information about a product you have ordered from us or registration information about an event for which you have paid the registration fee.

If you opt out from receiving email news and information from CHEA, we will process your request as soon as possible and within 30 days.

Information from Children

We do not knowingly collect information from children under age 13 without their parents' consent, and our website is not designed to attract children.

Changes to This Policy

Updates to this policy may be made by CHEA at any time. If changes are made, we will post a notice on our home page telling visitors that the policy was modified. The notice will remain on our home page for 30 days after the modification is in effect.
