Nathan began working at Family Protection Ministries (FPM) in 2002 to protect private homeschooling in California. He was homeschooled himself from kindergarten through high school and received a B.A. in Political Studies from The Master's University. Currently he serves as Director and Legislative Liaison for FPM. He works behind the scenes at the State Capitol, meeting with legislators to advocate on behalf of homeschoolers. He and his wife Betsy are actively involved in their church and homeschool their own eight children.
Dr. Austin Andrade currently serves on staff at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills as the Pastoral Overseer of Family and Children’s Ministries. With a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and over 15 years of experience in both teaching and school administration, Dr. Andrade brings a strong foundation in education, leadership, and pastoral care to his ministry. His passion for equipping families and guiding the next generation is rooted in both his professional expertise and deep commitment to the church community.
As CHEA’s Executive Director and Support Network Director, Angela Lasch gets to work every day toward her vision of families knowing they can absolutely home educate their children. As CHEA was a tremendous help to her while homeschooling her three boys, she now gets to encourage others in their homeschool journeys. She loves to come alongside homeschool leaders and assist them as they strengthen the families in their groups. She and her husband of 30+ years, Scott, also administer a PSP for their church.
Darren Jones has worked at HSLDA since 1996, first as a legal assistant and then as an attorney in various capacities. Currently, he spends the majority of his time advising homeschool group leaders about everything from crafting statements of faith (he prefers the Nicene Creed) to designing policies to protect children at co-ops. Darren and his wife Sara homeschool as a team and have graduated the oldest two of their four children. He enjoys board games, teaching Sunday school, and speaking at homeschool conferences around the country.
Hear the latest from Sacramento and what's on the horizon that could affect our homeschooling groups and/or families.
If history
has shown us anything, it has shown us that Christ-centered community is non-negotiable.
However, families are being pulled in so many directions because of work, drive
times, activities, and entertainment, that there’s very little time to develop
consistent community. It’s time to recalibrate and reprioritize the mandate to
not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. Join the discussion and be
encouraged with practical tools to strengthen your families!
The battle to protect your right to homeschool is entering a new phase. A new model bill that is hostile to homeschooling freedom urges legislators to impose archaic restrictions on home education in every state. In this presentation, Darren will analyze both the Make Homeschool Safe Act and the worldview on which it is based and give strategies to equip you and your families now so you can respond quickly and knowledgably to these emerging threats.
Free parking is available at The Chapel at Grossmont.
A delicious dinner buffet will include gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian options.
At-the-door registration will be available; however we encourage you to register by August 20 as we need to supply a final count to the caterer prior to the event. Meals may not be available if registering after August 20. However, we occasionally have a few spaces available, so if you miss the online registration deadline, please call to see if there are still meals available.
The Leadership Event (including dinner) is designed to help encourage and equip those leading in any area of private home education groups, including PSPs, co-ops, support groups, and more. Leaders do not need to be part of CHEA’s Support Network to attend the Leadership Event.
