To the mom who gives her all to her family every day, not for human accolades, but for God’s glory. You are sitting at the kitchen table early Monday morning. The lesson plan book is empty, the schoolbooks are all over the house, two stacks of laundry need to be put away (or washed?), and you are wondering: Does any of this even matter? Is this what a typical morning feels like? Do you have hard days occasionally, or is every day becoming a hard day? When you feel this way, what are you quietly longing to hear? God sees you, and He loves you. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) The Sacrifice is Real Homeschool moms sacrifice to fill more roles than most people can imagine: chef, housekeeper, laundress, grocery shopper, nurse, bedtime story reader, taxi driver, lesson planner, teacher, frog dissector, and career counselor, just to name a few. And usually without a thank you, and often with a few complaints thrown in. I remember back when I was homeschooling my three sons. At one point, I was struggling with a toddler and a teenager and everything in between. Trying to balance sports schedules, phonics, puberty, ministry, working part-time, and still being a wife felt overwhelming most days. It felt impossible to think those long days would ever end. But they did. Why It Will Count What happens in the day-to-day builds your children’s foundation. It’s not a single memory but a lifetime of memories, of character-building, and of faithful discipleship that will give your child what they need to carry them into adulthood. It’s not about reading, math, history, or science; it's about learning something that isn’t a required subject in school. Faithful discipleship is the tool your children need to one day build a marriage and family of their own. And that comes from modeling what that looks like to them every single day. It’s hard to imagine it now, but one day, your son or daughter will be an adult looking back with gratitude for the sacrifices you made for them. They will have children (your grandchildren) who will benefit from the seeds you are planting today. Kingdom fruit takes years to ripen; it doesn’t happen in just one season, but in many seasons. You are Seen by Your Creator You are not just a mother or a teacher, you are a daughter of the King, and you are loved. The years that feel thankless are the years you are sowing seeds of eternity in your children. God has not missed a single moment or a single tear shed. He has seen every step of your journey as a mom. Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.” Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:25–31 (NKJV) This Mother’s Day, reflect on the importance of your role as the mother of your children. You are the mother God chose for them. God has given you these special blessings to raise and care for. Homeschooling is just a bonus that gives you more time to pour into them. Remember that you are loved by your Creator. God sees you. We invite you to add a comment about your homeschool journey, being a mom, or a word of encouragement that has helped you. ________________________________ Angela Lasch is the Executive Director of CHEA.
