at Biola University
13800 Biola Ave., La Mirada, CA

The Leadership Conference is designed to equip and encourage those involved in any level of leadership in home education groups, such as PSPs, co-ops, support groups, or more. We hope you can join us!

Longing for some encouragement and refreshment to finish the year strong? Planning for next year or wanting some ideas for expanding or improving your group or growing your leadership team? Wondering how to best support the newer homeschoolers? With excellent speakers and workshops as well as time to fellowship with and glean insights from other homeschool leaders, this is the place to be! The Leadership Conference officially ends at 2:00 p.m., but since it was so popular last year, there will be an informal coffee and conversation time until 3:30 p.m. Keynote speaker, Dr. Renton Rathbun, Nathan Pierce, and Dr. Lisa Dunne will all be available for small group conversations and questions.

Nathan Pierce

Nathan began working at Family Protection Ministries (FPM) in 2002 to protect private homeschooling in California. He was homeschooled himself from kindergarten through high school and received a B.A. in Political Studies from The Master’s University. Currently he serves as Director and Legislative Liaison for FPM. He works behind the scenes at the State Capitol, meeting with legislators to advocate on behalf of homeschoolers. He and his wife Betsy are actively involved in their church and homeschool their own eight children.

David May

David May is a leader at Dayspring Christian School in Visalia, CA, a PSP. He graduated from The Master's University in 1997, where his worldview was corrected from the influence of the public schools he attended. He then graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary in 2000. Since 2002, he has served as the Lead Jail Chaplain in the Tulare County Jails. The events of his childhood, including growing up in the public school system made him passionate about discipleship and the desire to give his children stability in a loving Christ-centered home.

She has served the homeschooling community for many years at various levels, and they celebrated the graduation of their eldest last year!

Workshops

Legislative Update, Nathan Pierce
Hear the latest from Sacramento and what’s on the horizon that could affect our homeschooling groups and/or families.

Rescue Mission: Three Keys to Embracing and Equipping New Homeschool Parents, Dr. Lisa Dunne
Homeschoolers have been praying for this moment for years: that parents across America would suddenly awaken to the dangers of the public school system and decide to leap gleefully into the adventure of homeschooling their children. That moment has arrived. Now that parents are fully awake (and far more terrified than gleeful), how will we steward the homeschool harvest that is flooding our co-ops, our communities, our conferences? Join Dr. Lisa Dunne as she shares her experience on the rescue mission.

Nourishing Yourself to Always Abound, Betsy Pierce
Staying steadfast and immovable when everything around you seems out of control is difficult. Angela will share how to “always abound” as you balance caring for your family and serving the families in your homeschool community.

Multigenerational Marketplace, Dr. Lisa Dunne
The modern workplace is often steeped in conflict and misunderstanding. For the first time in organizational history, five radically different generations find themselves working under one corporate roof, resulting in friction, frustration, and faultfinding. In this strategic guide for marketplace leaders and culture-shapers, Dr. Dunne provides a step-by-step process that utilizes eight core communication competencies for engaging younger workers on the job. Learn the simple but profound tools of the multigenerational trade.

Leadership Transition and the Homeschool Group, David May
Dayspring Christian School began in 1985. Established to be led by men, a unique aspect of their homeschool community, each parent takes on a different responsibility in the school. Learn how this PSP has begun the transition process of raising the next generation through a mentor program which has come about through trial and error, resulting in the creation of an advisory committee to aid in the process. Come hear what did and didn’t work, and how they have begun passing the baton to the next generation.

A Biblical Worldview of Leadership, Dr. Renton Rathbun
Today’s world is crying out for strong leadership—but what does that mean? In the heat of creating success and longevity, we have lost the ability to create new leaders that will replace us. This workshop traces the foundational principles of biblical leadership, illustrates strategies for engaging and inspiring the next generation, and highlights the importance of shifting from “game-theory leadership” to what we will call “foxhole leadership.”
